Kari Paving ‘Yellow Brick Road’ to Gold Coast 2018

The Australian Weightlifting Opens Trials in Brisbane last week saw five countries, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Australia, Japan and Nauru and over twenty weightlifters compete in their respective weight categories.

The event, held as a lead up to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, saw PNG’s Steven Kari outclass the rest of the participating countries in his weight category, to snatch gold.

The event, attended by over one hundred spectators, saw PNG Powerhouse Kari execute a smooth lift on his first event.

In his second attempt, Steven, with great momentum, managed to snatch 175kg.

His final event, and with a little bit of a glitch, managed to do a clean and jerk of 210kg, for an overall total score of 357kg.

This led to Kari claiming Gold for PNG in the Australian Weight Lifting Open Trials.

Come April 4th to the 15th Steven Kari and Dika Toua will be defending their 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games titles.
