Hero who died from attack after attempting to stop harrassment against women laid to rest in Lae

The 35-year old man who was beaten to death by a group of men in the Lae’s Top Town two weeks ago was laid to rest this afternoon (September 21) at Butibum cemetery in Lae.

Late Moses Peter who was also known as Moses Walo was killed after attempting to stop a man from harassing two women at 8th Street.

Moses is a father of two and was employed with the Black Swan Security in Lae during his passing.

In an emotional gathering this afternoon, families, relatives, friends and colleagues of late Moses Peter, came to pay their last respect during his funeral services at Butibum village.

Late Moses was the only breadwinner for his immediate, and extended family.  Today, he was remembered by his Boss, as someone who was always willing to give a helping hand.

On Saturday morning, September 8, late Moses was attacked by a group of men at 8th street, when he intervened to stop a man from harassing two women. He passed on that afternoon.

In retaliation, youths from Butibam burnt down houses at the banana block, along the Cassowary road in Lae.

The Ahi leaders from the six Ahi villages including Buitbum, Kamkumung and Yalu submitted their petition to the Northern Division Police Commander, Peter Guinness, following the murder of the young men.

Late Moses is from Markham and Butibam and is the third from a family of 4 and is survived by his wife and two children. His family and community want justice for his death.

To many, he will be remembered as a hero.
