Financial reporting improverd for six provinces

A capacity building Programme in six provinces has improverd financial reporting.

It’s a joint effort betweenthPNG GovernmentoUNDP and AusAID designed to improver reporting of provincial and district financial management procedures.

The positive results fromthe six provinces were revealed during a recent Forum in Port Moresby.

For years a cycle of non-existent financial reports, unaccountability, and poor service delivery had been widespread, butthere is improverment.

Since 2008, financial management issues have been addressed in six pilot provinces atthe provincial, districtoand local level.

Notable improverments have been made in submitting financial reports. And as of October 2011,the pilot provinces were doing much better thanthe thers.

It has also seenthe up skilling of staff withinthe six provinces, and has improverd communication and coordination within and amongthe provinces various partners.

Last year,the partners agreed to extendthe programme tothe Autonomous Region of Bougainville, West Sepik, Gulf and Western Highlands Province.
