Eight Still Missing at Sea

By Theckla Gunga – EM TV, Port Moresby

One health inspector in Western Province is amongst seven other people who are still missing at sea.

Abel Diani and his family left Baimuru in Gulf province on Monday 16 January, but are yet to arrive in Daru.

Diani was in another boat which left Baimuru together with the 12 passengers that were rescued on Tuesday by OK Tedi’s shipping vessel, MV Fly Alliance.

Spokesperson of the 12 survivors Maria Vaii said they were last seen on Monday afternoon heading towards Daru.

“We left Baimuru together on Monday but while our skipper was fixing the pull rope of the boat engine on our boat, they travelled ahead”, said Maria.

She said after they fixed their pull rope, they journeyed towards Daru but the eight were not seen.

However at 1:30pm this afternoon, family members told EM TV News that they haven’t arrived in Daru yet.

They said they have also tried contacting Diani on his mobile phone but all their calls were forwarded to voicemail.

They have been missing for four days.
