City Residents Clean Up City for The Games

by Michelle Amba – EM TV, Port Moresby

More than 1,000 youths and mothers are cleaning the city in preparation for the Games.

The whole of Moresby North East Electorate will be cleaned in the next ten days leading up to the 2015 Pacific Games.

This also helps those unemployed earn some money to afford tickets to watch the games.

Four contractors have been engaged to coordinate the exercise with the clean-up starting this morning.

Mothers and youths geared with rakes, grass knives and plastic bags took to the streets of Moresby North East electorate, starting off in the settlements and moving into the city.

The exercise is an initiative of the Moresby North East electorate supporting NCD in its clean-up efforts in preparation for the Pacific Games.

One million kina has been allocated for this exercise and those taking part in the clean–up are happy they will have some money to buy tickets to watch the games.

Almost all of the participants in this exercise are from the settlements in the electorate, including 9 mile, 8 mile, Makana, Wildlife, 6 and 7 mile.
