PNG LNG Invests in Education Improvements in Hela Province

It was smiles all around when the keys to a new teacher’s house was handed to the Komo Catholic Primary School in Hela Province over the weekend. The teacher’s house was built for the school by Exxon Mobil PNG; operator of the PNG LNG Project, who has been working in conjunction with communities in PNG LNG project areas to help improve education and health infrastructure including the restoration of facilities damaged in the 2018 earthquake.

Education Minister Responds to PNG Teachers Association Demands

Yesterday Minister for Education, Nick Kuman responded to demands made by the Papua New Guinea Teachers Association on the three percent pay rise. The Teaching Service Salary Fixation Agreement gives a three percent increase annually for 2017, 2018 and 2019. This equates to a total of nine percent that should have been adjusted to the teachers’ salaries over the last three years, however the government did not budget for it in 2017 and 2018.

Teachers Demand Promised Pay

The Papua New Guinea Teachers Association wants the government to pay the three percent pay rise promised to them according to the Teaching Service Salary Fixation Agreement that was signed between the Council of Public Sectors Union and the government in 2016.The association demanded a response from the government this Friday, or term two classes for primary and secondary schools will be disrupted.

PNG Cocoa Board Hosts First Fundraiser For 2019

In July this year, cocoa enthusiasts will converge in Lae for the 2019 PNG Cocoa of Excellence Festival. Formal preparations for this event began recently, with the hosting of an official fundraiser in Lae, Morobe Province.In 2017, the inaugural PNG Cocoa of Excellence Show was staged in Kokopo, East New Britain. The event brought together cocoa producers, suppliers, exporters, and manufacturers together to celebrate cocoa, and also grade various cocoa samples from around the country.

PNG Customs to roll out new ‘Supermarket Approach’ at Wutung Border

A new approach in cargo management and clearance will be implemented at the Wutung Land Border Port once it opens before the end of the year. Called the ‘Supermarket Approach’, this system developed by PNG Customs Service will better cater for goods coming in and out of the country using specific conditions that are set to improve customs accounting and clearance.
