PNG’s Disciplinary Forces Complete Capability Training

Members of the PNG’s disciplinary forces have completed 3 weeks of capability training on how to deal with explosives in Port Moresby.

This training was part of the Australian Defence Cooperation and the Australian Federal Police effort to enhance security in Papua New Guinea.

The 20 disciplinary forces comprised of 9 Defence Force, 8 Police and 3 Correctional service officers, who showcased two-minute explosive drills prior to their certification.

Officiating at the event were RPNGC Assistant Commissioner of Operations, David Manning; APEC AFP Coordinator planning Superintendent Shane McCellan; and Australian Defence Cooperation Lieutenant Colonel Campbell Paine.

Lt Col Paine said his training is a joint effort by the Australian Defence Corporation and Australian Federal Police, facilitated to train disciplinary officers in preparation for PNGs international events.

EMTV News arrived at the scene to a spectacular display by the participants, while they were demonstrating the identification of hidden explosives.

The order of their display comes with the use of detective equipment for locating the explosives; alerting members and retreating to safe zones.

This training provides an avenue for the participants to provide security during the 2018 APEC Summit and the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup.

It was facilitated by one of Australia’s top private military training company called the ‘Explosive Protective Equipment’.

Participants said this training also paves the way for them to treat explosive situations in line with their duties.
