Chimbu Looking to Agriculture: Empowering Local Farmers

Farmers in the Kundiawa-Gembolg Electorate in Chimbu Province now have the opportunity to sell their fresh produce overseas. This was made possible through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Kundiawa Gembolg District Development Authority, and the Fresh Produce Development Agency. Both authorities signed a four year agreement to partner to support local farmers.

The Kundiawa-Gembolg District Development Authority invested K3.76 Million into the Fresh Produce Development Agency, to partner to support local farmers marketing their fresh produce and other cash crops to meet the demands of the agro-industry in the country and overseas.

More Coorporative Societies Registered in Jiwaka

A total of 281 cooperative societies in the Anglimp-South Waghi area of Jiwaka Province have registered to do business. This will see a lot of grassroots people in Jiwaka engaging in small and medium enterprise businesses. Their certificates were presented to them by the Department of Trade and Commerce, last Friday.

These cooperative groups will join the already established 6000 cooperative societies in Papua New Guinea, and the 1.2 billion registered members worldwide. Joining a cooperative society means one must agree to pool together resources to undertake economic activities such as poultry, piggery, and agricultural projects for a common good.
