WNB Governor Appeals for Flood Donations

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

The West New Britain provincial government is appealing to organisations, government agencies and the public to help with donations in support of communities affected by the flood.

West New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel said the damage caused by the flood has worsened.

Governor Muthuvel appealed to the national government for relief of funds and materials to support falling infrastructure, especially bridges.

More than 50 houses were damaged, with food gardens destroyed by the flood. Two main bridges linking Bialla have also been washed away, cutting off vital services and affecting the operations of palm oil companies, schools and health centres.

“These people will badly need some help from government, so I appeal to people to donate generously,” Muthuvel expressed.

He appealed to all business houses in Kimbe, including all hardware businesses, to kindly donate to this cause, or at least be reasonable and sell goods such as tents or hardware stocks and food items at a reasonable price.

Governor Muthuvel said relief assistance in cash will be of great assistance to the provincial government and disaster office in rebuilding people’s lives.

All cash donations can be made to this account:

WNBPG DISASTER & EMERGENCY TRUST FUND, Account Number: 6000, 355,007 Westpac Bank, Kimbe branch.
