“We have already put forward to CTI and the APEC Authority agenda items on customs to customs cooperation so we believe that the agenda will help customs in the long run where we can enhance our cooperation and have dialogues on capacity development, says Bire.

Mr Bire added that once the customs to customs cooperation materializes, that could be used as a vehicle for customs member economies to help each other in regards to capacity and capacity growth.

With the theme ‘A Secure Business Environment for Economic Development – Enchancing APEC Customs Business Dialogue in the APEC Region’, the Dialogue created a discussion platform at all three-policy priority areas of APEC 2018.

  1. Improving Digital Connectivity, Deepening Regional Economic Integration;
  2. Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Growth; and
  3. Strengthening Inclusive Economic Growth through Structural Growth.

“These are issues that we want the industry partners to come out and say what these issues are and also provides the opportunity to other member economies to see where we have the problems and they can be able to help us through the cooperation that we have,” Mr Bire adds.
